Zubair SEC collaborates with the academia on raising entrepreneurship awareness

Date: March 13, 2015

A team of advisors from Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC) has recently concluded a round of workshops across university colleges to raise awareness on business entrepreneurship and social responsibility. This initiative came as part of the Centre’s strategy to engage with the academia, acknowledging the significant importance of planting seeds of entrepreneurship in the mind-set of students prior to them joining the working force after graduation.

The workshops were held at Al Zahra College for Women; Bayan College; Caledonian College of Engineering; Gulf College; Mazoon College; International College of Engineering and Management; Majan College; and Oman College of Management and Technology.

Throughout the sessions, Zubair SEC team engaged with the students on topics relating to their future ambitions, how to recognise entrepreneurship within oneself, and what is needed to pursue a business project. The team also talked about the importance of social responsibility, and what corporations and individuals can do towards having a more sustainable and scalable social impact through the jobs or businesses that students will lead after graduation.

An important part of our strategy at the Centre is reaching out to the community through interactive sessions to raise awareness on the potential within the entrepreneurship world. School and university students in specific have been some of the most dynamic and engaged audiences, who have shown great interest in the concepts introduced. While the natural direction of many students has been to get employed by the government after graduation, we realized during those workshops that many already have dreams and baby thoughts for having their own projects, but might be clueless on how or if to proceed”, Lina Hussein, Communications Manager at Zubair SEC.

She added, “We would like to thank the deans and management of all the university colleges we have visited so far for their good-reception and the effort they have put to hold the workshops and attract students to attend. That cooperation really reflects the forward thinking of these colleges and how keen they are on spreading entrepreneurship and social responsibility knowledge and awareness amongst students”.
