Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC) celebrated the recent winning of the national “Best Private Sector Initiative Supporting SMEs”. The celebration was attended by Khalid Muhammad Al Zubair, Managing Direct of The Zubair Corporation, and a number of representative members who won Zubair SEC’s Direct Support Programme for the years 2014 and 2015, in addition to executive managers from the Zubair Corporation and the Centre’s team.
The event started by an encouraging speech by Khalid Al Zubair, followed by insightful contributions by some members, and a presentation by the Centre’s team about the significance and impact of such awards.
The “Best Private Sector Initiative Supporting SMEs” category of the award celebrates all private sector initiatives and contributions in the field of empowering and developing business entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in the Sultanate; Zubair SECsolely received the award to which 9 private sector initiatives have applied for the year 2014.
The Award – with all its categories – designed and managed by Riyada (The Public Authority for SMEs Development), is considered the most prestigious award in the Sultanate, recognising individuals and organisations that contribute to the development and progress of the entrepreneurship ecosystem and the success of small and medium enterprises. The award is a fruit of Seeh Al Shamikhat Symposium in January 2013, and comes as part of the royal strategic instructions of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.
Categories of the Award include: Best Private Sector Initiative Supporting SMEs, Best Governmental Institution Supporting SMEs, Best Business Idea, Best Educational Institution, Best Media Institution, Best Small Enterprise from the Commercial Sector, Best Small Enterprise from the Service Sector, Best Medium Enterprise from the Fish Industry, Best Medium Enterprise from the Service Sector, and Best Medium Enterprise from the Industrial Sector. Total applicants to all categories were 581 applicants, including 9 applicants to the Best Supporting Private Sector Organisation which was won by Zubair SEC.
Member of Zubair SEC, “Meshan”, won the “Best Small Enterprise from the Commercial Sector Award”, in addition to Centre’s member Abdul Azeez Al Seebani from “Dates World” who received a Certificate of Recognition for his participation.
“This win enforces the strategic positioning that Zubair SEC has achieved as an important beacon with high credibility and commitment in serving business entrepreneurs in the Sultanate. And as we celebrate this occasion today, we dedicate this win to every member of Zubair SEC; our success is by them and for them, and in such special occasions and in all times, we stand behind them and next to them and work together with all what we can to achieve together further progress and success for all our members”, said Khalid Bin Muhammad Al Zubair.
Zubair SEC is one of the initiatives which emanated from The Zubair Corporation’s Social Responsibility strategic vision towards the Omani society. Since its launch in 2013, Zubair SEC has joined to its membership more than 200 small businesses and around 240 entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses from all sectors of the economy to benefit from its services and support.
