Date: March 19, 2017

As part of its scope of collaboration with Zubair Small Enterprises Centre, including the adoption of a winner of Zubair SEC’s Direct Support Programme 2017, Ominvest – leading investment group in the region – has kicked off the first steps towards supporting Majed Saud Ahmed Al Battashi, owner of a waste recycling business.

Majed Al Battashi whose company specialises in waste management and promotes environmental responsibility through its operations was among the 10 winners of Zubair SEC’s flagship Direct Support Programme (DSP) for the year 2017.

As part of the scope of collaboration between Zubair SEC and Ominvest, Majed Al Battashi was chosen for the Ominvest DSP seat within the bounds of the programme. Zubair SEC advisors organised the official initiation meeting between Ominvest officials and Majed Al Battashi to draft the roadmap to follow.

During the meeting, the development plan for Majed’s business and areas where the DSP grant can be best invested were discussed. Participants at the meeting also explored business development opportunities to expand the reach and markets for his start-up.  They also conferred as to how Ominvest group of companies can become a major supplier of raw waste material at no cost, feeding into the supply chain of Majed’s business.

Majed will be working with Ominvest to highlight the importance of raising a culture of environmental responsibility, especially when it comes to waste management across the group.

Zubair SEC team of advisors will be working closely with Majed and extend all possible support to develop his business and provide him with the needed services at all stages.

Speaking of the collaboration, Ominvest management said, “We are looking forward to offering practical steps to support Majed Al Battashi through Zubair SEC. Our recent joint meeting proved to be positive and promising. We were able to identify many areas for synergies, given the fact that Ominvest is very keen on environmental responsibility and sustainability across the group.”

Ominvest Management added, “We will spare no effort in making this collaboration a true success and will ensure it is a role model for joint efforts between different business players across the wider value chain of the economic development in the Sultanate. Similarly, we are looking forward to the larger scope of collaboration with Zubair SEC towards exploring business development opportunities for its members across the country.”

Lina Hussein, Head of Communication and Social Impact at Zubair SEC said, “Social and environmental responsibility has been a pivotal part of our advisory services to our members, along with our awareness efforts to raise a culture of sustainability and positive social/environmental impact of business across the Sultanate. As such, we are especially delighted to have Majed Al Battashi amongst the ten winners for this year’s Direct Support Programme and to be partnering with leading investment conglomerate Ominvest towards extending all possible support to our member”.

She added, “It is through such collaboration with business leaders that we can better scale up the impact of serving start-ups and small enterprises in the country, and really spread a positive culture for collaboration across all business sectors and stakeholders”.

Winners of the fourth edition of the Direct Support Programme organised by Zubair SEC – a social responsibility initiative by The Zubair Corporation – were selected in February 2017. The programme has been providing comprehensive support to high-potential young entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses for the last four years.

With the newly announced winners, the Direct Support Programme has so far signed up 38 members for the programme in its four rounds.

Zubair SEC’s Direct Support Programme is considered one of the most important programmes in the field of entrepreneurship in the Sultanate. The programme aims to create a spirit of positive competition between Zubair SEC’s members, aiming to earn a package of services including valuable advisory and business development as well as a financial grant that is spent through a set working plan implemented in cooperation between the Centre and the winning members.
