In line with its strategy to build the capacity and knowledge of its members, Zubair SEChas funded this year the diploma studies of one of its members who specialize in jewelry making.
Nadia Al Shamsi is an artist by talent and an employee in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture who opted to peruse her dream and passion and start a small business in authentic jewelry making. She was one of the Zubair SEC members who were selected earlier this year for the Direct Support Programme in its 2014 round, through which she has been receiving thorough business advisory services and won a financial grant that helped cover her study expenses as well as capital expenditure for her small business “Mazayen”.
The word Mazayen is derived from the Arabic word for “beautiful woman”. Nadia takes pride in her masterpieces of silver jewelry and art work and in mixing traditional Omani designs in modern implementations. She aspires to become a well-recognized brand inside and outside the Sultanate and crafts her jewelry in ways that brilliantly represent the Omani identity and culture.
While she recognizes the complexity of the field and that talent and passion alone do not suffice, Nadia looked for a specialized programme that would build in her the needed knowledge and skills to become a professional jewelry artist and produce competing works. She approached Zubair SEC earlier in the year to cover the cost of joining a Diploma Programme in Creative Jewelry at the London Jewelry School in the United Kingdom for a period of three months and her request was welcomed and supported. She has recently finished the programme and came back to the Sultanate with a distinction for her diploma and a renewed vision for her business.
“I would like to thank all the Zubair SEC team for their continuous support and help. Without their support, attending this course would have been difficult”, said Nadia.
