Date: July 2, 2019

MUSCAT: Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC)’s members Majed Saud Al Battashi and Mahmoud Abdullah Al Amri’s company Recycling Services and Oasis Water Company, a Zubair group company and a leading manufacturer of pure drinking water, have made significant progress on their waste management agreement signed last February.

Facilitated by Zubair SEC, Recycling Services and Oasis Water had signed a waste management and collection agreement in February 2019. Majed Al Battashi and Mahmoud Al Amri are founders of Recycling Services, a waste management company which was among the 10 winners of the Zubair SEC’s flagship Direct Support Programme (DSP) for the year 2017.

As part of the agreement, Recycling Services has been collecting waste for Oasis Water on a daily basis and ensuring that waste is treated and managed as per standards set by Oman Environmental Services Holding Company S.A.O.C (Be’ah), the government-owned entity that streamlines waste management services in Oman.

Ali Shaker, Advisor – Business Development & Strategic Partnerships at Zubair SEC said, “We are delighted to reveal that there has been tangible service progress since the signing of the contract between the two companies. Recycling Services have added more value through the facilities they offer Oasis Water Company. They have provided convenient waste management solutions and larger mobile bins. The company has been able to reduce disruption time in the factory by 50% which is of significant value to the business operation.”

He added, “It is particularly satisfying to announce that waste is being segregated and recyclable items are being processed as per the guidelines set by Be’ah. The support for SMEs from a mainstream company like Oasis Water Company encourages young entrepreneurs. We are also appreciative for the keenness of Omani leading companies like Oasis Water to back start-ups. By doing so they are encouraging and nurturing innovative, dynamic and aspiring entrepreneurs. This kind of support will scale up the success stories of start-ups. Oasis Water Company has shown a very keen interest in disposing their waste in an environment friendly manner and they have found an ideal partner in Recycling Services company which uses the latest techniques and standards in plastic and paper waste collection.”

Sanjay Thakur, Factory Manager at Oasis Water Company said, “Working with Recycling Services has helped us have better waste management flow, which is critical for our industry. We are impressed with services rendered by the professionally run Recycling Services. Zubair SEC has built a strong base for its dynamic members and that is why we are pleased to collaborate with founders of Recycling Services who are doing great work in the area of environmental services. Their company is providing an efficient collection and transport service of waste materials and they are continuously working to reduce the environmental impact. We applaud Zubair SEC for their support to enterprising entrepreneurs like Majed Al Battashi and Mahmoud Al Amri.”

Zubair SEC, which has always been in the forefront of facilitating similar business growth opportunities for its members, will continue with its mission of building a successful entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Mahmoud Al Amri and Majed Al Battashi said, “We are enormously grateful to the support and show of confidence from Oasis Water Company. We are immensely thankful to Zubair SEC for their guidance and knowledge. With the support we have received from the centre, we have been able to expand our operations and set clear development goals for our business.”

Recycling Services company had recently received a completely modified and freshly branded truck from Zubair Automotive, the flagship enterprise of The Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp). The modified and branded truck is fully equipped to safely collect and transport waste lead acid batteries (LAB) to recycling facilities.

Ominvest (Oman International Development and Investment Company SAOG) through its financial leasing associate, National Finance, had earlier extended support to buy a truck for Recycling Services. The support enabled Recycling Services to buy the truck after which Zubair Automotive modified the truck to meet the industry requirements.

It may be recalled that Zubair SEC had signed an agreement with Ominvest in 2016 to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas in Oman under the DSP programme.  As part of the agreement, Recycling Services was selected for the Ominvest seat within the boundaries of DSP which is a mentorship programme for high-potential novice entrepreneurs and young business owners. Recycling Services had then concurred to work with Ominvest to highlight the importance of raising a culture of environmental responsibility, especially waste management.
