The Zubair Corporation hosts foreign experts to meet small business owners

Date: November 12, 2013

The Zubair Corporation, represented by Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC), recently hosted entrepreneurs from a Class 2013 Initiative, which is managed by The Owners Forum, an internationally renowned initiative to support economic growth through the creation of employment opportunities and socially responsible leaders.

The Corporation had an open meeting for both guests and members of Zubair SEC, who have established small businesses in the Sultanate. The meeting was concerned with creating dialogue between consultants and experts from The Owners Forum in order to identify how to establish and sustain small businesses.

Held at Bait Al Zubair Museum, the meeting opened with an address that outlined the importance of the meeting. The event provided the perfect opportunity for members of the Zubair SEC to learn from the expertise and experience of leading businesses from across the region.

For Zubair SEC, this type of meeting is central to its strategy of opening channels of communication and partnerships between members of the centre and leaders in the business. The aim is for small businesses in the Sultanate to benefit from the experiences of leading entrepreneurs in the Sultanate and the region in general.

Salim bin Yarb a business participant in the meeting, expressed his gratitude in visiting the Sultanate for the first time and for being given the opportunity to learn more about Oman and its people. He was able to talk in detail with members of Zubair SEC and understand their aspirations. He expressed hope that these type of meetings will provide real support for small business owners and open channels of cooperation between the two groups

Matthias Treutwein, Director of the Class of 2013, The Owners Forum, said: “We are very pleased to have had this opportunity to cooperate with Zubair SEC. We have been looking for new opportunities to create a combined effort between the entrepreneurs to provide them with support. In a short period of time Zubair SEC has developed a considerable number of members with small businesses, which is a great achievement. Creating a channel of dialogue enables new investors to enter this field and explore competitive ideas. Essentially, this is what we are looking for; the chance to establish partnerships locally and globally with the entrepreneurs. This step also assures the Centre’s dedicated move towards the providing opportunities for small entrepreneurs to meet with the experts.”

Highlighting the importance of this meeting Hani Obeid Acting CEO of Zubair Small Enterprises Centre said: “I am very pleased with this cooperation we have seen today whilst hosting the Class of 2013 Initiative. This event exceeded expectations in terms of the extent and depth of the discussions between businessmen from various countries and members of the Zubair SEC. This indicates that entrepreneurs have clear indicators which can bind them clearly, regardless of their project type or how successful they are. From the results achieved in this meeting, I am looking forward to organizing many such events.”

Zubair SEC membership is open to all budding entrepreneurs in Oman who have an idea or who are currently running a small business enterprise. Zubair SEC offers business consultancy and other integral services to help them achieve sustainable growth and help the sector grow in order to diversify Oman’s economy.
