Tuhlub Al Mustadama, an Omani start-up and member of the Zubair
Enterprise Development Centre (Zubair EDC), has signed a cooperation agreement with Simak to implement a pilot
project for fish feed production. The agreement was signed by Zahir Al Alawi, Founder of Tuhlub Al Mustadama,
and Abdulaziz Al Yaqoubi, Supply Chain Manager on behalf of Simak.
The agreement aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the aquaculture sector and accelerate the
transition of research and development outcomes into industrial applications and commercial production, leveraging
Simak’s industrial capabilities in Duqm.
The agreement marks an important milestone for Tuhlub Al Mustadama, an innovative company focused on the green
economy and environmental sustainability. The company harnesses locally available algae and seaweed resources to
develop high-quality aquaculture feed, contributing to food security and the development of Oman’s blue economy.
The pilot project will leverage Simak’s infrastructure and industrial expertise in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm
to support the development and production of locally sourced, sustainable solutions that address the evolving needs
of the aquaculture sector.
Commenting on the agreement, Zahir Al Alawi, Founder of Tuhlub Al Mustadama and member of Zubair EDC, said:
“This agreement with Simak marks a significant milestone for Tuhlub Al Mustadama, taking our sustainable fish feed
project from research and development into pilot implementation and paving the way for an Omani product with the
potential for commercial-scale production. Through this collaboration, we aim to develop feed using locally available
resources, supporting food security while enhancing the competitiveness of Oman’s aquaculture sector and blue
economy. We also greatly value the continued support and confidence of Zubair EDC since the early stages of the
project, which has played an important role in helping us reach this milestone.”
The pilot project aims to demonstrate the product’s efficiency, consistency, and potential for industrial-scale
production by combining the operational and technical capabilities of both parties. Simak will provide the production
environment, operational services, and available raw materials, while Tuhlub Al Mustadama will oversee the technical
aspects of the project, including feed formulation, nutritional analysis, production supervision, and testing.
Ali Shaker, Head of ESG & Sustainability at The Zubair Corporation, said: “We are proud of the achievements of
Zubair EDC’s members, which demonstrate the importance of empowering Omani entrepreneurs and supporting them
in transforming innovative ideas into scalable businesses. Tuhlub Al Mustadama is a strong example of an innovation-
and knowledge-driven venture with the potential to create meaningful economic and environmental value. Through
its programmes and services, Zubair EDC provides entrepreneurs with guidance and support while connecting them
with opportunities and strategic partnerships that contribute to the growth of their businesses. We hope this agreement
marks the beginning of a new phase of growth for Tuhlub Al Mustadama and serves as an example of the potential of
Omani ventures built on research and innovation.”
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of partnerships between start-ups, industry, and academia in
translating research outcomes into value-added commercial ventures and advancing innovation across Oman’s
fisheries sector. It also highlights the role of Zubair EDC in supporting entrepreneurs and facilitating strategic
